87 Happy Hours and Counting!
Today 9/8/09 I have 87 Happy Hours listed!
Masa, 439 Tremont St. : One dollar tapas week nights until 7 pmwww.masarestaurant.comMasa's tapas are amazing! you can get a fairly large combo platter with 6 tapas for $5! The Maragritas are great as well, they come in all kinds of great flavors made with fresh pureed fruit. I would get there as early as possible the bar is small and tends to get packed quickly.
28 Degrees, 1 Appleton St, Boston, MA: $1 Island Creek oysters from 5pm to 7pm every day except Mondaywww.28degrees-boston.comOyster lovers please pipe up! I have nothing to say, because frankly, oysters disgust me....but not people who eat them!!
The Lower Depths, 476 Commonwealth Ave, Boston, MA: $1 hotdogs all the time, with all kinds of fixings, for only $1 more!Approaching Kenmore Square before you get to BU and the Fenway Park area, the Lower Depths is, well, a bar below ground! Any day of the week at any time you can get a basic all-beef hot dog on a buttered toasted bun, replete with standard condiments. And if you're feeling extra flush, toppings (including, bacon, cheese, chili or jalepeno) are only $1.
Morton's Steakhouse, 699 Boylston at Exeter St.: $4 happy hour appetizers from 5 pm to 6 pm.www.mortons.comMorton's calls it the "Power Hour" and serves up some delicious sliders! In the bar only, of course (make sense to any one who's don't another kind of power hour in college).
P.S. I think the Boston Morton's is hard to find for anyone who's never been...there's no big sign outside. So google-map the address before you go!
Orleans Bar, 65 Holland St, Somerville, MA: The bar offers half-price appetizers from 4pm-7pm weekdays.www.orleansrestaurant.com/One disappointment, the appetizers are half size as well, it actually says this on the menu! We got the spring rolls, which really were small and few, but the quesadillas we shared were fantastic and the portion was just right.
Art Bar, 40 Edwin H Land Blvd, Cambridge: Happy Hour appetizer plates from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday are $5 dollars each. Also in the Royal Sonesta Hotel, the Art Bar is a very chic place to have $5 lobster sliders on their outdoor patio over looking the Charles! This would be a great place in the summer to start a big night out!
Dante, 40 Edwin H Land Blvd, Cambridge, MA: From 4pm until 7pm, on every day but Sunday, sfizi (small plates) are $1 each. Oysters are also a buck-apiece on Fridays and Saturdays.www.restaurantdante.comDante is inside the Royal Sonesta hotel across from the Galleria Mall. It's soooo much more than a hotel restaurant however! The views of the Charles from the tables in the dining room are awesome.
Estragon, 700 Harrison Ave, Boston, MA: $1 traditional pintxos in the bar Monday through Thursday, from 5:30pm.estragontapas.com/index.htmWikipedia says a pintxo is, "a small slice of bread upon which an ingredient or mixture of ingredients is put and held there using a stick, which gives the food its name." Sounds interesting, some one who's tasted these snacks from the Basque country please let us know how they go down!

Rialto, Bennett St, Cambridge, MA: $1 Island Creek oysters on Mondays evenings at the bar.www.rialto-restaurant.comI don't like oysters, so I don't have much to contribute here, but if you're an oyster fan please chime in! Rialto is one of the most highly praised restaurants in the Boston area, I think it's great that they are making a foray into the world of happy hour food specials!
Grendel's Den, 89 Winthrop St Cambridge: The whole menu is half price before 7:30 Sunday through Thursday. Half-Price hours are from 5:00 pm til 7:30 pm every evening and from 9:00 pm til 11:30 pm Sunday - Thursday. You must purchase a minimum of $3 per person to qualify for half price food.www.grendelsden.com/All I have to say is, Grendel's is FANTASTIC! Get there as early as possible.
Bukowski's Tavern, 1281 Cambridge St: "Buck Burger" $1.69 on weekdays before 8pm. ** Cash only**I have never been to Bukowski's, though I have heard the burgers, however cheap, are great. I'd love for people to chime in.
Cactus Club, 939 Boylston St: Half price appetizers from 4pm to 7pm from Monday to Thursday
bestmargaritas.com/
The Cactus Club has great margaritas and nachos, what more can you ask for--really? The Flauta were also good. Get there early to get a bar stool though, the half-price menu is only served in the bar.
Sorriso Trattoria, 107 South St: $5 pizzas on Mondays from 5 to 9 p.m
www.sorrisoboston.comLocated close to South Station Sorriso Trattoria is a fantastic Italian restaurant. Not the type of place you'd expect to even have a happy hour type special, but on Monday nights they sell their fantastic, gourmet, pizzas for only five dollars!
The Living Room, 101 Atlantic Ave: half price appetizers, every Monday through Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.www.thelivingroomboston.comI have not visited the Living Room for happy hours bites, so anyone who has I would love your feedback. I have been there later in the evening for drinks and dancing and I can say this semi-swanky North End hangout gets pretty crowded on the weekends with 20-somethings looking to dance a little and get their drink on!
McCormick and Schmick's, 34 Columbus Ave: Famous $1.95 Bar Food Menu Mon-Thur until 6:30 pm.The burgers are a great option at McCormick's, they are $2.95, and it's a regular size burger with fries, no skimping on the portions! I've also had the spinach and artichoke dip, which is decent, and since it's $1.95 you can't really complain. The place does get crowded right after work so go as early as possible.
The Hill Tavern, 228 Cambridge St: weekdays, 4pm-6pm, and enjoy half-priced appetizers.www.yelp.com/biz/the-hill-tavern-bostonI love this bar. It's great for the over-college but not over going out on a weeknight crowd. The food is awesome, I highly recommend the sweet potato fries and the burgers. This may be one of the best places to get half price appetizers on this blog!

The Bleacher Bar, 4 Yawkey Way: $1 sliders on Sunday nights and $4 burgers on Monday nightsbleacherbarboston.comCheck out this bar below Fenway Park on Sunday nights. It's a fun place to be even in the off season. The sliders are delicious! Try the fried pickles as well, they are not a dollar, but are too good to not splurge. On Sunday nights they have indoor Cornhole, a game you may have played at a backyard BBQ, it's pretty simple, toss the bean bag into the hole, just try not to hit the ceiling.
The Pour House, 907 Boylston St.: Half off grilled chicken sandwiches Wednesday nights, half-off Mexican dishes
Thursday nights and half off burgers on
Saturday nights and $2 PBR draftspourhouseboston.comI've frequented the Pour House many times. It's not a place to bring you parents for dinner (although they might like brunch) but it's a GREAT place to get a cheap dinner and beer with a group of buddies. I've had the burritos and the burgers and stand behind them as typical, decent pub food well worth the whopping $4 or $5 dollars. They also typically have deals on domestic drafts. Pabst Blue Ribbon is one that I've had, make sure you check out the chalk board before ordering!
Crossroads Pub, 495 Beacon Street: Free pizza with a pitcher of beer on Wednesday night.
www.crossroadspubboston.comWith a thin doughy crust and a good combo of cheeses the pizza at Crossroads is totally satisfying. It's no Regina's (my favorite from Boston's North End) but Regina's is also $15 for a pie and this is FREE! Crossroads is worth the walk down Marlborough Street on Wednesday nights. The bar is a bit of a dive, but it's clean and the staff is friendly.
