Theater District: Rustic Kitchen

Rustic Kitchen, 210 Stuart Street, Boston: $5.95 appetizers at the bar, 4 pm - 6 pm Mon- Fri.

Rustic Kitchen is located in front of the Renaissance Boston Hotel and adjacent to the Stuart Street playhouse Rustic Kitchen is a staple dinner option for theater goers.

Visted recently, this is my tweet: Rustic Kitchen= B+ The food was excellent and the ambiance nice, but we found the bar small and the bartenders slightly service impaired

8/18/09

Hyde Park: Townsend's

Townsend's Restaurant, 81 Fairmont Ave, Hyde Park : M-F Under $10 Bar Menu

Some items include: Grilled Romaine Hearts, dressed with Caesar, white anchovies & fresh Croutons ($5); Rhode Island fried Calamari with sides of spicy mayo & marinara ($10); Margherita pizza with Fiore Di Nonno Scamortza & basil marinated tomatoes ($9)

Cuffs, 350 Stuart Street, Boston:5 Appetizers, 5 Dollars each, 5 pm - 6 pm, Monday - Friday. Buttermilk Fried Chicken Bites, Buffalo Chicken Wings, Bacon Cheese Fries, Mezze Platter, Curry Chips.

Cuffs is in the Back Bay Hotel, which used to be Jurys. It's got a nice patio and is a pretty fun bar (however thelast time I was there they didn't play music). Check it out!

8/5/09

South Boston: Channel Cafe

Channel Cafe, 300 Summer St: 5-7pm where $10 for a burger and a beer

My friend Becca says the food is wonderful here!

8/3/09

Theater District: Legal Seafood

Legal Seafood, various location, Boston: Mon-Thurs 6 oysters for $6 until 6 pm.

Since Leagal's is everywhere in Boston it would be easy to get to one of them by 6 pm for some oysters!

Check out what they are saying on Chowhound about this deal: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/627436

Beacon Hill: No. 9 Park

No. 9 Park, 9 Park St., Boston: Free yummy bar snacks including homemade potato chips topped with crème fraîche and caviar and gougères (Wikipedia says a gougère is French cuisine, "a savory choux pastry with cheese.")

I hate to admit this, but I have never been to No. 9 Park. People argue that it's the best restaurant in Boston, but on my small salary I have yet to splurge and go. However now that I am aware of the free bar bites you may see me on a stool with a dirty martini VERY soon!

8/2/09

Cambridge: Ole

Ole, 11 Springfield St, Cambridge: $1 Taquitos at the bar Tues-Friday 5-6 pm

This Frugal Feaster cannot keep up with all the happy hour specials in Boston! I don't have the budget or the time! (of course if someone wanted to pay me to do this that would be different) So this is yet again another happy hour I have not yet attended. However the reviews of Ole on Yelp were, for the most part, very good. So if you work in Inman Sq., or near it, I would check out their taquito special!!

7/16/09

Theater District: Gypsy Lounge

Gypsy Lounge, 116 Boylston St. Boston: Thursday nights $4.99 steak frites 5-8 pm

This is a crazy club come 9 pm any night of the week...has anyone ever been there or eaten there before the line out the door fills with ladies in stilettos?

7/14/09

Cambridge: Small Plates

Small Plates, 56 JFK St., Cambridge: Happy Tappy Hour; a selection of tapas, wine, and wine cocktails for $5 each. Mondays 5-6 pm, Tues-Thurs 4-6 pm

If you work in Cambridge and can get out of work at 5 pm on-the-dot this would be a good happy hour to check out!

7/10/09

South End: Rocca

Rocca, 500 Harrison Ave, Boston: Rocca just updated their 5@5 deal to be 5@10, too! get 5 apps for just $5 each late-nite in the lounge, 10-11 mon-thurs, 10-12 fri-sat.

Their longstanding 5@5 deal has been Monday-Friday from 5-6:30 p.m., appetizerss include:prosciutto & fontina pizzetta, roasted butternut squash & pear pizzetta with ricotta, gorgonzola & sage, fried cauliflower with garlic mayonnaise, honey glazed duck wings with sage & peperoncini, and meatball sliders with provolone, tomatoes & arugula.

7/9/09

South End: Banq

BanQ, 1375 Washington St.: Mojito Madness, Thursdays from 8 p.m.-1 a.m., BanQ serves $5 mojitos and complimentary bites. There's also a new $5 bar bites menu, served every day from 5-10:30 p.m.
Options include; a seared spicy scallop on a Malay salad, Indian spiced fried onion rings, sweet potato fries with sweet chickpea dip, cauliflower fritters, and lamb spring rolls.

BanQ's decor alone should get you in the door, this is one of the coolest new restaurants in the South End!

Back Bay: Stix

Stix Restaurant & Lounge, 35 Stanhope St.: Throughout the summer, Tuesday -Saturday, from 5-7 p.m. Stix has a $1 raw bar and $5 frozen Myers's mojitos at the bar and on the patio. The raw bar includes oysters on the half shell, king crab legs, scallops, shrimp, and jumbo crab claws, all for only $1 each. They are also offering 50% off all bottles of wine!

This is a really great deal for people who like seafood, too bad I'm not one of them...but the bottles of wine...that I can get in to!

7/8/09

Seaport: Persephone

Persephone and, 283 Summer St., Boston: Persephone has a $5 Bar Menu every night! It includes offerings such as a baked to order bacon & sea salt pretzel, housemade pickles, french fries gremolata bruschetta!

I went here for the most recent restaurant week and thought the food was excellent. The atmosphere takes a little getting used to since it's a clothing boutique as well as a restaurant "concept."

About Me

My photo
Somerville, MA
When I first moved to Boston I was disappointed to learn there was no, real, happy hour (due to the notorious Massachusetts Blue Laws). As a person who LOVES a good deal (and nachos with beer) I quickly learned of the numerous restaurants offering food specials in lieu of happy hour. Over the years I became a go-to person for many of my friends and co-workers looking for a good place to go after work or grab a bite and cocktail. Unfortunately the other websites supposedly dedicated to happy hour were more advertising ploys. Their listings were out-of-date and did not even tip the iceberg for what is truly out there. I decided to create this blog and try to make it user friendly by dividing up the happy hours by location, duration of the specials, and nights of the week the specials are available. I also add my two-cents from time to time. I'm a bit of a nacho connoisseur and have strong opinions on where to go and how to eat them! I hope you find my blog useful and entertaining. Enjoy! -Carrie
