87 Happy Hours and Counting!

Today 9/8/09 I have 87 Happy Hours listed!

3/29/09

Dorchester: Ashmont Grill

Ashmont Grill, 555 talbot Ave., Dorchester, MA: Monday Night, Wine Club, 6-8PM, $30, 5 wines w/ small plates.

I've heard the Ashmont Grill is fantastic, please fill us in on what to order should we go!

South End: Rocca

Rocca, 500 Harrison Ave.,Boston: "Sunday Supper" $22 gets you 2 courses and a sweet.

Rocca is fantastic. I went here for Restaurant Week last year with all my girlfriends and we had a blast. I enjoyed the flank steak the time we went. I'm not sure what's on the Sunday Supper menu, but I'm sure you will get your $22 worth.

Somerville: Redbones BBQ

Redbones BBQ, 55 chester St., Somerville, MA: Half-price appetizers Monday through Friday from 4-6 pm in the Underbones bar.

Redbones is awesome, everyone agrees. The BBQ cannot be matched. My one complaint, again, is that it's hard to get out of work, and all the way to Somerville (if you don't work in the immediate area) before 6 pm to enjoy these deals. But those of you who do, get thee over to Redbones!

3/26/09

Theater District: Rock Bottom Brewery

Rock Bottom Brewery, 115 Stuart St, Boston,: $2.99 / $3.99 / $4.99 Bar Menu Available Monday - Friday: 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm

I enjoy the spicy spinach dip here, it's very cheesy as well as spicy...so prepare for queso overload. The dip is the best eaten with their ball park pretzels but, alas, the pretzels didn't make the cut for the cheap bar menu (c0nsider ordering them anyway). The nachos are also decent, but they charge $1.50 for chicken, guacamole and sour cream!

The only problem I have with the Rock Bottom specials is that the cut off time is 5:30 pm! Can't they at least extend it to 6 pm so we don't have to bolt out of work right at, or before, 5 pm just to get there? Then again, maybe people like that...

3/25/09

Theater District: Jacob Wirth

Jacob Wirth, 31 Stuart St, Boston: Happy Hour Here has been discontinued!! No, Jake, say it ain't so???!!!

Entree Specials:
Mon.–Thurs. until 2pm:
1/4 lb Angus burger on a bun and a Bud Light draft for only $5.

Mon.–Fri. until 4pm: Cup of chowder or soup of the day, sandwich of the day, dessert of the day, and soda, iced tea or Bud Light for only $9.95.

Friday until 4pm: Two hot dogs with french fries and your choice of a soda or Bud Light draft for only $8.95.

I haven't had any of the entree specials at Jakes, but I'm sure they are good, since the food is typically great. I did get some of the 1/2 price bar appetizers; the nachos get a C+. All the toppings were plopped on top of all the chips, not layered with-in the pile, and it was mostly cheese, very little salsa or beans. The small pizzas get a b-, they taste good, but look like a Celeste Frozen Pizza from Stop n' Shop.

3/19/09

Theater District: Flemings

Flemings, 217 Stuart St: 5 FOR 6 TIL ‘7: 5 cocktails, 5 wines by the glass and 5 appetizers. $6 each, served at the bar until 7 pm

I went here for Restaurant Week a few years back and the steak was ok, it's no Grill 23 but the prices probably reflect that. The inside has an old supper club feel to it, I remember the bar area being small. Not the place to start a rocking night maybe, but good for getting a couple of friends together for a glass of wine and some appetizers! They also offer a $40 three-course pre-theater menu, if you're catching a show in the theater district.

Cambridge: Bambara

Bambara, 25 Land Blvd, Cambridge: $5 and under for appetizers Mon-Fri 4-6 pm in the bar and BEER & A BURGER SUNDAYS $9

"Each Sunday, Bambara is offering a special including one of our delicious classic cheeseburgers, along with a pint of local Harpoon IPA, for $9. What could be better?" Says their website....not much if you ask me!

They also offer a cheap bar menu before 6 pm.

Fenway Park: An Tua Nua

An Tua Nua, 835 Beacon St: $3 and $4 appetizerss from 5 pm-7 pm, Miller Lite drafts are $2.50

I've been here to go dancing in my more hard-core "going out days." If you go here on a Saturday night it's filled with college-age types. But I would think that a week-day after work this might be a good deal, cheap ML's and apps and maybe a little karaoke anyone?? And supposedly they offer this deal EVERY night of the week...but don't take my word for it, you may need to call first!

3/11/09

Fenway Park: Uno's Pizzeria

Uno's Pizzeria, 645 Beacon Street: "Snack Hours" aka half priced appetizers in the Bar Area Monday to Thursday 4 to 6 pm.

Some people have a thing against chains, but I'm not one of those people. I think for the price of $1.99 or $2.99 the snack's at Uno's are pretty decent. If it's not baseball season this is a great place to catch up with friends, people tend to forget about the Kenmore area between the months of November and April!

3/4/09

Back Bay: Tapeo

Tapeo, 268 Newbury St, Boston: recession special, $5 tapas at the bar
www.tapeo.com

Tapeo is GREAT, especially the Sangria! Their tapas are small (but I guess that would be expected), but super tasty. If they have wild boar on the menu when you go, GET IT!

Become a member of their Facebook group and get updates on nights when you can get free drinks (I think it's Thursdays).

South End: Tremont 647

Tremont 647, same address: $2 Taco Tuesdays http://www.tremont647.com/taco-tues.html

I want to go here BADLY! I loooove tacos! This is a swanky-ish joint so I bet they are delish!

Back Bay: Daisy Buchanan’s

Daisy Buchanan’s, 240 Newbury St., Boston: $2 to $4 bar menu, Sunday through Thursday from 3 to 7 pm.

Have yet to eat at this bar, but have drank there on many occasion. Daisy B's is a great place to bump into Red Sox players relaxing on a summer night!

Jamaica Plain: Jeanie Johnston Pub

Jeanie Johnston Pub, 144 South St., Jamaica Plain: Appetizers are half-price on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5pm-6pm.
www.jeaniejohnstonjp.com

JP resident's please tell me what this place is like, I've never been! Apparently their karaoke night on Saturdays is great!

3/2/09

North End: Red Sky

Red Sky, 16 North St # 18, Boston: Weekdays 4-6 pm Half Priced Appetizers. www.redskyboston.com

I've walked by here so many times, but I have yet to go in. I was always tepted to go, especially for the Frank Sinatra impersonator on Wednesday nights! Please chim in and tell us how the food and the Frank is!!

Harvard Square: Noir

Noir, 1 Bennett St., Cambridge: "5-4-3-2-1-0" nibbles special, offered Monday through Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.
noir-bar.com

Here's what those numbers mean: Excellent pressed and cold sandwiches are $5. Thin flatbread pizzas are $4. Skewers of beef, chicken, or shrimp are $3. Salads are $2. Desserts are a buck and mixed nuts are free.

About Me

My photo
Somerville, MA
When I first moved to Boston I was disappointed to learn there was no, real, happy hour (due to the notorious Massachusetts Blue Laws). As a person who LOVES a good deal (and nachos with beer) I quickly learned of the numerous restaurants offering food specials in lieu of happy hour. Over the years I became a go-to person for many of my friends and co-workers looking for a good place to go after work or grab a bite and cocktail. Unfortunately the other websites supposedly dedicated to happy hour were more advertising ploys. Their listings were out-of-date and did not even tip the iceberg for what is truly out there. I decided to create this blog and try to make it user friendly by dividing up the happy hours by location, duration of the specials, and nights of the week the specials are available. I also add my two-cents from time to time. I'm a bit of a nacho connoisseur and have strong opinions on where to go and how to eat them! I hope you find my blog useful and entertaining. Enjoy! -Carrie
